45 Second Brownies

A while back, before I was watching everything that I  put in my mouth, I heard a friend telling how she was addicted to the “warm delights” by Betty Crocker.  These are essentially a little brownie in a bowl that you make in the microwave.  They are delicious. But the price tag is a bit of a deterrent, being about 1.59 – 1.99 each.  So, in an attempt to save a buck, I googled “microwave brownie” and got a plethora of answers to my brownie question.

After several attempts, all be it, yummy attempts, I came to the conclusion that there are a few tweeks that help make a good microwave brownie.  Here’s a few tips:

  1. Use a shallow bowl, the brownie cooks faster and doesn’t leave a liquid in the bottom.  Unless you’re into that, then a deeper bowl for you.
  2. The best ratio of brownie mix to water (in my opinion) is 2:1.  So 2 Tablespoons of mix to 1 Tablespoon of water.  I very often use 4 tablespoons of mix and 2 Tablespoons of water.
  3. If you are mixing in extra good things, I have found that chocolate chips will sink to the  bottom, as well as nuts and caramel.  To help this, I have found that I can microwave the brownie for about 25 seconds then add my mix ins and microwave it about 20 – 25 seconds longer.  My favorite mix in is pecan chunks and coconut.
  4. When you are done, put your bowl in the sink and fill it with water.  The cooked on brownie is like concrete when it sets up.  I made the mistake of leaving an empty bowl by my bed over night, I like to never got it clean.
  5. Teach your “microwave usable” kids how to do this and you instantly become mom of the year.  🙂

Happy brownie eating!
