Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings

It’s that time of year again!  Time to bring out our favorite recipes for the fall:  pumpkin EVERYTHING, apple crisp, cranberry strudels, cinnamon hot cocoas, and toasted marshmallows.

One of my very favorite things to make are Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings.  This recipe comes from a very dear friend of mine.  And it is extremely sweet with just the right amount of crisp shell and gooey sauce.

Here’s how you make them!

You will need 2 large granny smith apples.  (I use Granny Smith to get the tart taste, because everything else in this recipe is extremely sweet)

2 cans of Crescent Rolls.  8 count each.

A stick of butter. (yes a WHOLE stick)

A Cup of sugar.

A Tablespoon of Cinnamon.

A can of Mountain Dew.

First – Peel and core your apples.  Cut them into 8 pieces each.  Yes, they will be large pieces.

Then – Wrap each piece of apple in a crescent roll.  The roll will stretch, and as long as there isn’t any spots open then you did it right.

Lay the dumplings in a 9 x 13 pan (sometimes I have to put a few down the middle to get them all to fit)

Ok – now for the sweet part – the Cinnamon Sugar.

Take you butter and put it in a microwave safe bowl.  Microwave it for about 20 seconds.  Just till you can start to stir it.  NOT TO LONG!

Add the sugar and cinnamon to the butter and mix till you get a “paste” consistency.

Now – SCHMEAR – (yes, schmear) that paste all over your dumplings!  And place the pan in the oven.

I usually put my pan in the oven, then pour the mountain dew in the corner, as to not spill it in transit.

Then bake these beauties for about 45 minutes, you want them to be browned and crisp on top and the mountain dew will cook down and become a gooey sauce.

These are fabulous with homemade vanilla ice cream.  Maybe I will post that recipe next.

ENJOY!
